The next day, pilot training for Jeshu began, and he took to it like an orb fish to the sea. Within minutes, Rhett knew the lad had the hands for it. Rhett was an experienced instructor, knowing just when and what to throw at a new student pilot, but what Jeshu exhibited in piloting aptitude was simply unprecedented. As with all of his other training, it was a matter of just a few months before Jeshu had perfectly mastered and exceeded the capabilities of the shuttle. There were moments when he seemed to tap into skills and training that Rhett knew nothing of. During those times, Rhett just watched as he had learned to do this past year, learning from the young man in quiet amazement.

To his surprise, Brae said very little during the instructional time. But once his pilot training with Jeshu was nearly complete and she got what she wanted, any vestiges of kindness or compromise from her disappeared. Rhett continued to abide with her as best he could for Jeshu’s sake, but now that he was coming into his own, Rhett couldn’t help but seriously consider parting ways.
